7 Reasons to Visit Disney in December

By: Jenna

While the summer months tend to be the most popular time to visit Disney, I happen to love visiting in December.

We planned our first trip to Disney World as a family last December. We originally were going to go in February, but I checked the closings list and found that several main attractions were scheduled for repair. While browsing the crowd calendars, I realized that December would be a perfect time for our family to visit.

Here are my 7 reasons why you should consider visiting Disney in December!

Cooler Temps
Disney in the summer can be HOT!!! If you're not a fan of the heat (and I am NOT!) then going to Disney in December is for you. While we were there the weather was great! Some days we wore jeans and some we wore shorts (I even needed my Northface jacket a couple of mornings!).

Decorations
Do you love decorations? I sure do. While we were there, Main Street was filled with wreaths and decorations and the castle was lit up. The hotels were also beautifully decorated. The Grand Floridian had a 1,000 square foot gingerbread house, the Disney Beach Club had a life-sized gingerbread carosel and the Contemporary has a 70' tall tree!

Party!
Do you like to party? Then check out Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party! Also going on are the Christmas Wishes Parade and Candlelight Processional!

Characters
When else will you get to see your favorite characters donning holiday gear? Chip and Dale were donning scarves and gloves, Mickey and Minnie were dressed to the nines and Donald, Goofy and Pluto all got in on the action as well!

Crowds
Some weeks in December are a 2/3 on the crowd calendar! While we were there it was a 4/5 week (out of 10) and we never waited more than 15 minutes for a ride. In fact, we walked right on to several rides including my favorite, Pirates of the Caribbean (which we rode at least 3 times in a row, without waiting).

Themed Rides
Some of the rides are decked out for Christmas, including the re-named for December, Jingle Cruise!

200,000 Christmas Lights
Cinderella's Castle alone features 200,000 lights for Christmas! There are also 300,000 yards of ribbon used to decorate the property!
